Our Head Florist took time to collate her best top tips to give a bride, on the topic of flowers for her wedding:

1. Once your partner has popped the question and you have set a date, get yourself a good spiral notebook
    
2. Any time you see flowers that you like in a magazine, cut out the picture there and then,  even if it’s just one flower that you like, it helps both you, and us as your florist, to  build up a gradual picture of what you like and what your style is.
    
3. When you buy your dress take a photograph and put it in the notebook to show your florist, so they can recomend a style and texture.  Also, regarding the bridesmaids, it is very important to give the florist a sample of material and colour so we can match the flowers to the colour and the theme of your wedding.
    
4. It is an old and expensive tradition to get every guest a buttonhole. A good alternative, which I recommend, is to just buy for your wedding party and suggest that your guests order buttonholes directly from your florist as they know your theme and colours.
    
5. A very important tip –  make an appointment to meet your florist immediately after setting the wedding date - most professional florists will only do one wedding a day and you don’t want to be disappointed.
    
6. Check with the hotel to see if they supply the flowers for your wedding dinner.  Make sure they are in keeping with the theme of your wedding -  you have put a lot of time in to the natural flow of your wedding flowers and you need reassurance from the hotel that they will honour your floral plan.  Once you have decided on a theme and colour make sure it follows through from the church to the hotel.
    
7. Last but possibly the most important tip, carry your wedding bouquet to the side as you don’t want to be hiding the front of your dress. Carrying your bouquet slightly to the side means that you are able to show off your beautiful dress and your spectacular wedding flowers all at the same time.
